Within
easy reach of the center of Madrid by the recently opened Metro Sur, the
Teatro del Bosque at Móstoles is an affordable alternative to the
Teatro Real or the Teatro de la Zarzuela in the center of Madrid.
The trio of conspirators
The
ten years ago inaugurated theater
on the outskirts of the city of Móstoles, a five-minute-walk away from
the Metro station Pradillo, offers a good mixture of opera, Zarzuela,
ballet and drama performances as well as of concerts and recitals.
Different companies are responsible for the productions, which are most
times shown at different cities.
Amelia and Ricardo
Some
of the operas are given at Móstoles just at one evening like Verdi's Un
ballo in maschera of the Compania Populare di Roma at May 10, which was
of a surprisingly high standard. The tenor Valeriano Gamghebeli as
Ricardo (the Boston version was shown) and the soprano Patricia
Morendini as Amelia had on short notice replaced the originally planned
singers and performed their parts with a remarkable high quality, as did
Jerónimo Marín in the part of Renato. The baritone from Madrid sang
his aria 'Eri
tu' with great sensibility and beautiful
piani under the baton of Carlos Cuesta.
Jerónimo Marín as Renato
The
mezzo-soprano Lourdes Gracía transmitted with her blooming, deep
registers a gripping feeling as fortune-teller Ulrica. The ensemble of
the soloists was melodiously complemented by Helena Gallardo as Oscar,
Beltrán Uramburu as Samuel, Ismael Gonzáles al Tom and José Viada as
Silvano. Atmospheric and very varied was the colorful scenery set by
stage director Carlos Bosch.
