Rigoletto

Sie schlägt allerdings dann doch in Freude um, als er erfährt, daß Gilda in seinem Palast ist.

Finally his mood changes to joy, when he realizes that Gilda had been brought in his palace.

Voller Angst um das Schicksal seiner Tochter kommt Rigoletto in den Palast und verspottet die Höflinge.

Full of pain and soorow about the fate of his daughter Rigoletto comes in the palace and sclffs at the courtiers.

Doch selbst als er zugibt, daß Gilda seine Tochter, nicht seine Geliebte sei, und er sie anfleht, lassen sie ihn nicht in die Gemächer des Herzogs und zu ihr.

But, even when he admits that Gilda is not his lover but his daughter and he implores the courtiers, they do not let him enter the chambers of the duke and get to her.

Als seine Tochter schließlich in den Raum kommt, in dem sich Rigoletto befindet, hört er erschüttert die Schilderungen seiner Tochter. Er schwört Rache und beschließt trotz des Flehens seiner Tochter um Gnade für den von ihr immer noch geliebten Herzog dessen Tod durch Sparafucile.

When Gilda comes finally into the room, where Rigoletto is, he hears shocked the account of his daughter. He swears revenge and decides - inspite of all the imploring of his daughter for pity for her beloved duke - that the duke will die through Sparafucile.

In der Schenke von Sparafucile und seiner Schwester Maddalena entscheidet sich das Schicksal Gildas. Ihn immer noch liebend, obwohl er Maddalena den Hof machte, läßt sie sich statt seiner von Sparafucile ermorden. Als Rigoletto den Sack mit seiner sterbenden Tochter erhält, muß er erkennen, daß er dem Fluch Monterones nicht entkommen konnte. Der Herzog allerdings lebt und trällert sein Lied neuen Liebesabenteuern entgegenfiebernd.

In the tavern of Sparafucile and his sister Maddalena the fate ofr the duke and of Gilda will be decided. Still  in love with him, though she had heard his declaration of love to Maddalena, Gilda let Sparafucile kill her instaed of the duke.   As Rigoletto receives the sack with his dying daughter, he has to realize that he could not escape  Monterone's curse. The duke instead lives and warbles his little song looking forward for new love adventures.
