The plebjeians have elected Simone Boccanegra as new doge. He takes his seat on the throne ..

... und verschwindet am Ende des Prologs in eine Arte Zeitloch.

... and vanishes in a kind of time lack at the end of the prologue.

Laut Libretto 25 Jahre später - realistischer dürften jedoch 15 Jahre Zeitunterschied sein, da Amelia ca. acht Jahre war, als Simone Doge wurde. Simone ist noch immer Doge von Genua und Amelia, die Ziehtochter der Grimaldis, ist eine hübsche, junge Frau geworden. Sie ist verzweifelt, weil sie glaubt, vom Dogen gezwungen zu werden, Paolo, seinen Gefolgsmann, zu heiraten. Sie liebt jedoch  Gabriele Adorno, einen jungen Adligen. (Carmela Remigio als Amelia)

According to the libretto 25 years later - more realistic would be a time difference of 15 years, since Amelia was about eight years old, when Simone became doge. Simone is still the Doge of Genua and Amelia has become a beautiful, young woman. She is despaired, since she believes Simone will force her to marry his henchman and supporter Paolo. Amelia loves instead Gabriele Adorno, a young nobleman. (Carmela Ramigio as Amelia)

Der Doge übergibt Amelia ein Schriftstück mit der Begnadigung der Mitglieder ihrer Patrizier-Familie, die sich gegen ihn erhoben haben. (Alexandru Agache als Simone Boccanegra)

Aus der Erzählung Amelias erfährt er, daß die angebliche Grimaldi-Tochter seine vermißte, uneheliche Tochter ist, die er mit Maria, der Tochter seines Vorgängers im Dogen-Amt, dem Patrizier Fiesco, gezeugt hatte. Maria war in der Nacht vor seiner Ernennung zum Dogen gestorben. (Elisabete Matos als Amelia und Alexandru Agache als Simone Boccanegra)

When Amelia tells him her story, Simone learns that the supposed  Grimaldi- daughter is his missing, illegitimate daughter he had with  Maria, the daughter of his predecessor as doge, the patrician  Fiesco.
