König Alphonse XI. (Manuel Lanza)
sehnt sich nach Léonor, für die er selbst Krone und Volk opfern würde,
und erwartet ihre Ankunft im Alcazar Palast von Sevilla

longs for Léonor, for whom he would even sacrifice his crown and people,
and awaits her arrival to the Alcazar Palace at Seville.

Informationen seines Vertrauten Don Caspar, daß Léonor ihrerseits einen
Liebhaber hätte, ignoriert Alphonse XI. (Carlos Álvarez).
Information of his confidant
Don Caspar, that Léonor would have another lover besides him, Alphonse
XI. (Carlos Álvarez) has ignored, so far.

Alphonse XI. teilt Don Caspar mit, daß er Fernand, der den Sieg über die
Mauren erzielt hat, nach Sevilla kommen lassen soll, um ihn dort zu ehren.
Don Caspar seinerseits kündigt dem König eine Botschaft es Papstes
an.
Alphonse XI. tells Don Caspar that
he shall invite Fernand, who has achieved victory for Alphonse against the
Moors, to Seville to honor him. Don Caspar announces the King the arrival
of a message from the pope.

Léonor, die Alphonse an seinen Palast im Glauben an eine Heirat mit ihm
gefolgt war, leidet unter der Verachtung des Hofstaats und bittet

No matter if Carlos Álvarez (with Sonia Ganassi) ...

..oder Manuel Lanza (mit Dolora Zajick) in der Rolle des Königs, seine
Beschwörungen helfen nichts. Als Don Caspar einen nicht mit dessem Namen
unterzeichneten Liebesbrief Fernands an Léonore dem König überreicht,
gesteht ihm Léonor einen anderen zu lieben, ohne ihm den Namen zu nennen.
...or Manuel Lanza (with Dolora Zajick) in the role
of the King, his entreaties do not help. When Don Caspar presents a love
letter of Fernand to Léonore, which had not been signed, Léonor admits
that she loves somone else but does not reveal his name.

In diesem Moment dringt Balthazar mit einer Botschaft des Papsts in den
Königspalast ein und verkündet den Bann des Papstes für den Fall, daß
Alphonse seinen Plan verwirklichen würde, sich von der Königin scheiden
zu lassen und Léonor zur Frau zu nehmen.
In that moment Balthazar enters the palace with a
message of the and announces the excommunication of Alphonse in case that
Alphonse realizes his plan to divorce from the Queen and to marry
Léonor.

Balthazar verflucht Léonor (Dolora Zajick) sofort und droht Alphonse den
Kirchenbann an, wenn er sich nicht bis zum nächsten Tag endgültig von
Léonor trennen würde. Léonor beschwört die Rache des Königs für
diese Schande und wünscht sich im Boden zu versinken.
Balthazar curses Léonor (Dolora Zajick) at once
and threatens Alphonse with excommunication if he does not separate from
Léonor definitivly till the next day. Léonor implores the
King to take revange for this disgrace put on her and would prefer to
vanish into the ground.

Despite the curse Inès (Susana Cordón) stays
faithful to her lady.
